I'll Be Home For Christmas


Harley walked into the family room just as Gus slammed the phone down after talking to whoever it was that called twenty minutes earlier. “Baby what is it?” she asked when she followed him upstairs.

“That was Chief Franklin he just told me I had to go to Chicago.” He said. “When?” Harley asked as she slowly walked to the window. Gus sat down on the bed

“Tonight, he’s sending me and Williams to finish some business and talk to a witness that is there; about a case I’m working on.” He said as he ran his hands over his face. They were both quiet for a few minutes when Harley said still with her back to him, “It’s starting to snow.” She turned toward him, “Gus, Christmas is in two days why now?” she asked.

Walking to her, “I don’t know why now; but I promise all of us will be together for Christmas.” He said as he kissed her.

Harley walked to the closet, pulled out the suitcase and helped Gus pack. After he was packed he went to tell Zach and Jude bye while she called a cab for him. Downstairs at the door Gus gave the boys a hug one more time; then Harley wrapped her arms around his neck as he held her close. “I don’t want you to go.” She quietly said as she caressed his cheek. “I don’t want to go, but I’ll be back tomorrow, I told Franklin I had to because I wasn’t missing Christmas with you and the boys.” He replied as he ran a hand through her hair. They both heard the horn from the cab as it pulled in the driveway. Looking into each others eyes he kissed her with everything he had. When they broke the kiss he said, “I’ll call you when I get there. I love you.” She nodded, “I love you too. Stay safe sweetheart.” She said as he nodded and blew her a kiss as she watched him get in the cab and it drive away.

Later that night, after the boys were in bed, she lay in bed trying to sleep but without Gus it wasn’t easy. When the phone rang she picked up.

“Hello?” she answered. “Hey babe, it’s me.” Gus said as he lay in bed. “Did you get there okay? Is it snowing there yet?” Harley asked as she watched the snow out the window. “Yeah, we did, Williams and I will see this witness tomorrow and then be back. Yes, it started snowing right after we got here.” Gus couldn’t help but smile when he heard her yawn

“Honey I’ll let you get some sleep and I’ll see you tomorrow night.” He said. “It won’t be easy to sleep without you.” Harley answered. “I know it won’t be easy for me to sleep either.” Gus answered as he looked at the empty pillow beside him. “I love you and miss you, so hurry home sweetie.” She said wishing he was beside her. “I love and miss you too babe. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.” He said as they hung up.

The next afternoon as Harley looked at the calendar as she fixed lunch she couldn’t believe today was Christmas Eve and Gus wasn’t with her. While she and the boys ate she wondered if everything was going okay in Chicago with Gus. Her thoughts were interrupted by the doorbell when Frank let himself in, “Hey sis, have you heard from Gus yet to know he’s started back?” She shook her head no as Zach said, “Mommy can we play in the snow?” She smiled then looked at Frank, “Could you take the boys out to play for awhile?” she wondered. He smiled and nodded as he helped the boys get their coats and snowsuits on and head outside.

After she cleaned up she walked to the family room and turned on Christmas music then sat down on the couch and looked at the tree. Little did Harley know that at the same moment in Chicago Gus had just found out that his flight was cancelled because of snow? After Gus spent 45 minutes checking other flights only to be told they were all shut down he sat down and dialed Harley.

“Hello.” Harley said. “Hey beautiful.” Gus said. “Gus, hey are you on your way?” she asked. “Babe, Williams and I are at the airport but the flights have been shut down because of the snow.” He could hear her trying to hold back the tears as she said, “So you’re going to be stuck at the airport for Christmas.” In the background Gus could hear a song on the radio and he knew he’d do everything he could to get home because like in the song he knew “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.”

“Sweetie.” Gus said, “I’ll be home for Christmas, I promise.” He replied. “But..?” Harley wondered, “I’ll be there! I love you.” he said as he hung up. Harley looked at the phone when she heard the dial tone. Frank and the boys came in just then and she sent the boys to change but Frank saw a look of sadness on her face, “Sis what is it?” he asked.

“Gus just called; he’s stuck at the airport in Chicago.” She said as she covered her face with her hands.

“So he’s in Chicago and not able to get home for tomorrow.” He answered. “He said he’d be here for tomorrow but that’s impossible.” Harley replied. “Then believe he will sis, Gus will not miss Christmas with you and the boys.” Frank said. “Why don’t I call dad and we can stay with you.” Frank said as he went to the phone to call Buzz. For the rest of the afternoon Harley thought of Gus and the fact he was at the airport and going to miss being with her and the boys tomorrow.

Meanwhile Gus was checking out every car rental place that rented 4-wheel drive transportation but they were telling him that because of the snow rental places were closing due to the weather. After checking 6 different places Gus finally gave up and with a heavy heart sat down as he willed the tears in his eyes not to fall. Not realizing he’d sat down next to someone, but when he was spoken to he looked at the person.

“Young man, are you alright?” the man asked. Gus shook his head no as he said, “The flight that me and a friend were scheduled to take back home has been canceled and I was trying to get back to my fiancée and her two kids and have Christmas with them.”<br>
“Oh, I’m sorry; by the way my name is Jordan.” The man said as he held his hand out. “I’m Gus Aitoro sir.” Gus said as he shook the man’s hand. “Where were you headed to Jordan?” he asked. “I was headed to Springfield on business.” Jordan said, “you’re kidding I was headed there.” Gus said surprised.

I’ll be right back.” Jordan said as Gus watched him get up and walk away. A few minutes later, Jordan was back with a set of keys, “Let’s go Gus.” he said. “I do a lot of business in Chicago so I rent a car every time I know I’m here but since I can’t fly to Springfield I’ll drive so let’s get moving so you can see that fiancée of yours. “Are you sure sir?” Gus asked. Jordan nodded as he, Gus, and Williams walked to the car. Jordan watched as Gus’s eyes grew big when he saw the car which was 4- wheel drive SUV. They all climbed in and headed to Springfield.

Later that night after the boys were asleep and her dad and Frank had left Harley sat on the couch watching the lights on the Christmas tree. She looked at the clock which said, 11:00 and knew that Gus would call soon to say Goodnight. When the men had entered Springfield Jordan had driven Williams home and when they left the Williams’ house Gus had looked at the time which read 11:25. Jordan was now driving Gus home which he knew would take a few minutes to get there. A little later Jordan drove up Harley’s driveway. Inside the house Harley looked at the clock again it read 11:45 p.m.

“Gus? why haven’t you called me.” Harley wondered knowing she wouldn’t be able to sleep without talking to him.

Outside Gus jumped out grabbed his suitcase out of the back. When Gus stood he saw Jordan standing next to him. “Jordan I can’t thank you enough for doing this for me. I really appreciate it very much.” He said as he shook Jordan’s hand. “You’re welcome. I know what it’s like to love someone so much you want to spend every minute you can with them.” Jordan said smiling. “Merry Christmas Jordan.” Gus said. “Merry Christmas too you, Gus.” Jordan replied as he watched Gus run to the door.

Harley was just about asleep when she heard the door open. She looked around just as Gus walked in. He saw that she was almost asleep so he quietly put the suitcase down and watched her. “Gus? am I dreaming?” he smiled a tender smile as he answered, “No, babe I’m here, I’m home.” Hearing his voice woke her, “Gus you’re really here.” Harley said as she jumped up and went to him. He wrapped his arms tightly around her then picked her up and held her. When she looked at him he crushed his lips to hers and then buried his face in her neck.

When he looked at her again he said softly, “I promised you, I would be home for Christmas didn’t I.” he asked as he ran a hand through her hair as they both looked at the clock which read 12:05 a.m.

Standing outside the house Jordan still stood looking through the window at Gus and Harley and smiled knowing that Gus was unaware that he was with an angel tonight.

While he stood there Jordan the man disappeared and Joe stood there in full uniform. “Merry Christmas son I love you.” Joe said as he stood there for a minute then disappeared.

Undying Love

Standing at the door I watched as Rick and Mel worked on Harley. They weren’t able to get her heart started and that scared me. I love her so much that I don’t know what my life would be without her in it. All my mind can see while I’m pacing back and forth is the tortured memory of seeing Harley shot. Turning when I feel a hand on my shoulder; it’s Buzz, “Gus, she’ll be okay; you have to believe that; she is a fighter.” He tells me just as Rick came out.

“She’s made it this far but the bullet did some damage so she’s being taken to surgery.” He said. Walking over to him I plead with him almost shouting, “Please tell me she’ll make it – Please tell me!” “We’re doing everything we can.” Rick said putting a hand on my shoulder then he walked to Harley as the orderlies wheeled her out to take her to surgery.

With tears streaming down my cheeks they listen to me say, “I love you Coop, Don’t leave me; promise me you won’t leave me.” as she was wheeled down the hall.

Going in the exam room, a nurse turns to me, “Here you go sir.” She says as she lays Harley’s ring in my hand and walks out. Feeling myself sway as my body turns boneless I slide down the wall to the floor and pull Harley’s coat to my chest. Staring at the blood covered coat I feel sobs build up in my throat and tears run down from my eyes. Scrubbing my face hard I slowly begin to focus on the hand that had pressed against her wound and was now covered with her blood.

“Hey Dad, it’s me Nicky you gotta help me. Harley was shot and she’s not doing well; I’m asking you to put in a good word in for her so she can pull through this. I love her so much dad and I can’t lose her.” I beg on a quiet whisper. Feeling myself being dragged to my feet; I come face to face with Frank who is ready to explode. Just then Buzz walked in when he saw his son pull back to punch and I of course knew what was coming.

“NO! Frank” Buzz stated as he walked behind him to hold his arm so he couldn’t throw the punch. “Why not pop! He’s the reason she’s in here in the first place.” Frank bit out angrily. “No he’s not he’s the--.” Buzz started to say but stopped when he heard my quiet command.

“Frank, hit me! If it will make you feel better.” I replied. Before bracing myself a fist slammed into my jaw. Buzz helped me get to my feet. “Gus?” he asked as he waited for me to balance. Nodding to him Buzz lets go. Looking at Frank while rubbing my jaw, “Did that make you feel better? If it did I’m glad but hitting me isn’t going to help your sister.” I say walking by Buzz and out the door. Since I want to be alone I turn and head toward a quiet spot in the hallway a few feet from the room that leads to the door going to the O.R. where Harley is and sit down on the couch.

Undying Love (continued)

Tired I lean my head back and shut my eyes. I’m not sure how long I’ve been asleep but what woke me was someone calling my name.

“Gus?” I heard again, and I turn toward the voice and see a woman with blond hair and she’s wearing a white dress. “Yes?” I answer cautiously as the woman sits next to me. “Who are you?” I ask. The woman smiles while I study her and then I realize who she is.

“Mrs. Cooper?” I say quietly. “Call me Nadine.” She tells me. She puts her hand on my arm as she says, “Harley asked me to check on you.” Tears come to my eyes upon hearing those words. “Is that why I can see you? Because I’ve lost her?” I ask softly.

“No, you can see me because you are a part of Harley’s heart and I came to help her choose.” She told me. “Choose?” I ask then I realize her meaning

“She can’t leave me.” I say not able to stop the tears. “She’s chosen to be with you; that’s why I am here to help both of you through this.” Nadine replied looking at me then continuing, “She’ll be out of surgery in a while, Gus she’s tired but she’s going to fight to come back because she doesn’t want to leave her family, friends, and especially you; you make her happy.” Nadine finished and stood. “Where are you going?” I ask her.

“I’m going back to Harley, but I’ll be back with both of you when she’s in a room.” She says and starts to walk toward Harley.

“Wait Nadine?” I say with fear in my voice. When she turns to me, “Tell Harley I love her with all my heart.” I ask her. She smiles and walks away. Since I can’t sleep anymore because I either dream or keep seeing when Harley was shot I sit up and stare at the door leading to the O.R.

“Coop, I hope you can feel me near you. You can’t leave me, do you hear me; not now… we have so many things left to do. I know you are tired sweetheart but I’ll carry you if you’re tired you know I will.
Just hold on the kids need you and I need you babe so please...” I softly say with tears in my eyes. Standing and walking back to where Buzz and Frank were I sit down next to Buzz. As I sit down Frank comes to me

“Gus, I called the IAB in to investigate this.” He says kneeling in front of me. “NO! Frank.” Buzz said angrily. “Yes, Dad.” Frank said staring at him. Jumping up I glare at Frank, “You want my badge Frank, and my gun take them I don’t care. It’s your sister that I’m worried about and if she doesn’t make it then I’m nothing without her.” I say stalking away from him and leaning against the wall. As I lean against the wall I see Nadine

“She’s out of surgery she’ll be in a room in a few minutes, and then you can see her.” I nodded and froze as Rick walked through the door looking haggard. Walking to Buzz I heard him say, she’ll be a room in a few minutes; we repaired the damage but she’s lost a lot of blood so now it’s up to her. Only one person can see her right now.” Buzz nodded and looked over at me

“Gus you go see her and be with her.” He said. “DAD!” Frank shouted. “Yes Frank he needs to see her and he’ll help your sister.” Buzz replied. “Are you sure?” I ask he nodded as I followed Rick. Turning at the door I look at Buzz, “Thank you.” I whisper. Then walk through the door.

“We are watching her and she’s stable for now, so go talk to her.” Rick replies as I sit by her and lay her hand in mine. “I’m here sweetie, I’m not leaving okay. I love you babe, you hear I love you. However, I am scared. Harley you have to come back to me okay, you are my heart. What kind of man will I be without you?” I say brushing her hair with my hand and caressing her face. Not able to quit touching her I lean in and kiss her forehead softly. The soft sound of laughter makes me look up to see Nadine on the other side of Harley. “I see why my Harley loves you. I wanted to let you know Gus that you are the kind of man I would want Harley to be with” She says smiling.

Surprised I looked at her, “I am?” I ask. She nodded, “Yes you love Harley with everything you have. The boys could have deterred you from her but they also became a part of your heart and you love them as your own. You are what she needs and she is what you need.” She answers. “Then why wasn’t I able to keep her from getting hurt?” I ask angrily. “There are just some things you won’t be able to avoid but you will get through them together. “You take care of her Gus.” Nadine asks me.

“I will Nadine I promise.” I say as I rub the back of her hand with my fingers and my eyes fly to hers when I feel how cold Harley’s hand is.

“Is she?” I ask cautiously. Nadine looks at me, “She’s fighting to stay with you Gus.” “I can’t let her go, tell her I’ll fight with her just don’t let go.” I say looking at Nadine. “The boys’ need you Harley; if you don’t fight for me; fight for Zach and Jude and Susan.” I say quietly then I realize what’s missing and jump up and run to the door,

“Marina!” I call when I watch her walk over. “Yeah Gus, what’s wrong?” she asked in a panic. “Sweetie nothing’s wrong, I need you to go to the house and bring back pictures of Susan and the boys for me okay?” I ask when she nods I hand her my key and then go back and sit by Harley. When I do her heart rate went down causing an alarm to go off.

“What’s happening?” I ask Nadine but Rick answers, “Her blood pressure is slowly going down, and when that begins to happen we have to get her stable. Looking at me, Nadine says, “The pull to let go is getting to her Gus.” Even as Rick and Mel get her stable and leave I’m shaking as I sit down.

“She needs your strength Gus, give her your strength.” Nadine said as she held Harley’s other hand.

While I caress Harley’s face I place my other hand over her heart. Hearing the door open I look up to see Marina, “Will these do?” She asks. Leaning over to kiss her check I whisper, “These are perfect thank you.” She smiles, “bring her back Gus please.” I’m trying sweetie.” I say as I squeeze her shoulder as she leaves and I sit back down and lay my hand over Harley’s heart again.

“Sweetheart, you can’t leave your kids, open your eyes and look at them Harley. I love you and we are waiting for you to wake up baby. You can’t leave Susan she needs you so the both of you can talk about girl things, and how terrible we men are.” “Sweetie you have to stay for Zach and Jude they need you remember how scrappy and tough you got to get Zach back? You did it honey and you can do this…. You had Jude in that stupid jail cell baby he needs you we all need you, you can do this honey. So open your eyes and look at these wonderful kids.” I say holding the pictures up for her to see. “We love you, I love you!” I reply looking at Nadine but she was looking right past me.

“Tell her again.” Nadine says quietly.

“Harley?” I know you can hear me, I love you!!” “If you wake up I promise I’ll take you on that trip to Europe just the two of us okay. Even though you don’t like my old clunky car but I love it I’ll buy you a new car for you and the kids, so I know you hear me love I know you do!” I say. “You have to wake up so I can see those beautiful green eyes okay.” I whisper.

Rubbing her cheek I whisper again, “Harley?” and sit in silence with Nadine as we each wait with Harley. Very slowly I feel her turn toward me and open her eyes.

“I could never leave you or the kids.” She says in a ragged voice as she reaches for my hand

She looks at me, “I felt you pulling me back Gus, your strength and loved pulled me back. You’re my hero,” she whispers roughly then coughs as I stand then gently kiss her lips. “You are my heartbeat” I softly say as Nadine looks at us

“Welcome back sweetie, I need to go, I love you; I’m leaving you in good hands. We smile as she continues, you both love each other so strongly that it will be with you through anything and together you can get through anything including something like this. “Gus take care of her, you have my blessing I will always be here for you should you need me.” Nadine said as she faded away.

“Baby, I need to go get Rick okay, you rest I love you.” I whisper as I kiss her hand.

Unseen by Gus or Harley, Nadine smiles as she says, “You both have an undying love for each other that will be forever, I’m here sweetie watching over you.” She says as she leaves.

A Child Shall Lead: Christmas / 2004

“But sir what do you want me to do?” the little boy asked looking up at the angel that was his supervisor. “Watch.” He replied as the scene began to unfold.

He stands alone, staring at the tree in the park that had been decorated; thinking of the love he once had, her love that completed him. Gus thought of the happy times that he and Harley had before it all went wrong and a sad smile played on his lips knowing he wouldn't be with her for Christmas. “I still love you Coop, I’ll never stop.” He whispered as he covered his face with his hands.

“Sir, who is that? And why is he sad?”

“His name is Gus and he made a big mistake and lost the lady he loves. All is not lost though the lady he lost still loves him just as much; they just need to work their way back to each other.” The supervisor stated.

“What about his lady?” the boy asked even as the scene with Gus faded and Harley’s scene unfolded.

Standing there watching her father sleep she couldn’t help but worry his heart was weak from the first heart attack and she didn’t want to loose him again. As she thought the words, loose him her thoughts turned to another man.

He was the man she loved; she was complete when they were together. Harley thought of the good times they had. She thought of the look on his face right before she walked out on him on their wedding day as a tear slid down her cheek. “I need you here with me Gus, I love you.” She said quietly looking back at her father.

The boy smiled as the scene faded then looked at his supervisor, “I can do this.” Good! They need to be together.” The man said watching the boy disappear so he could carry out his mission.


“Can I have my ball back sir?” the little boy asked shaking Gus out of his thoughts. “Huh?” Gus replied. “My ball.” He said again.

“Oh yeah sorry.” Gus said leaning down to pick up the ball that had rolled to a stop by his feet. “Here ya go.” He said tossing the ball to the little boy. “Thanks mister.” He said as he started to walk away. Seeing the look on Gus’s face the boy turned back; went and sat beside him.

“Are you okay?” the boy asked looking at Gus. “Yeah I’m okay.” Gus answered giving him a small smile. “No, you’re not, you’re sad, why? By the way my name’s Sam.” He stated holding his hand out. Gus took the boy’s hand, “I’m Gus and yeah I guess you could say I’m sad – I lost someone very important to me.” He said

“Was he a friend?” Sam wondered. Gus smiled and nodded, “She was my best friend.”
“Eww yuck a girl friend.” Sam replied making a face. Gus had to laugh, “How old are you Sam?” “Eight.” “You’ll like girls’ one day buddy.” Gus stated. “I’ll be your friend Gus.” the little boy said.

Sam stared at Gus for a few minutes then said, “Do you miss her?” “I love her Sam so yes I miss her very much.” Gus replied looking at the little boy. “Then go see her.” Sam said quietly. “It’s not that simple buddy.” Gus started to say, “I just can’t go see her.”

“I’d better go; I’ll talk to you soon.” Sam said grabbing the ball and standing. “It really is simple Gus, go see her.” He said before running away.

Harley sat at the counter at Company watching her brother Coop talking to the customers while she drank hot chocolate. Both saw when a little boy came in and too the counter. Harley saw that he was looking for something. Getting up she went to him and knelt down

“Hey there sweetie, can I help you find what you’re looking for?” she asked. He smiled at her, “I was looking for Mr. Buzz, I have a Christmas card for him.” Sam said showing her the card. “Well, I’m his daughter Harley and he’s in the hospital right now but when I see him I’ll give it to him.” She answered.

“I’m Sam and I’d like to give it to him if I could?” he wondered. “Well, we could go over there and see if maybe you can.” Harley remarked. Sam grinned and took her hand even as she asked, “How do you know my dad?”

“I’ve seen him around the neighborhood and he always smiles at me.” Sam replied just as her cell rang. Ignoring it they went across the street to the hospital. When the nurse saw Harley she came up to her while Sam took a seat against the wall.

“Harley, I just tried to call you, a police guard is in with your father now. Buzz asked me to have you read this before you saw him.” She replied passing her a legal pad and walking away. Harley began to read and took a breath when she realized what it was.” Sitting down hard in a waiting room chair she continued to read, “O Daddy.” She said softly when she finished and lowered her head and began to cry.

Gus stared at her for a minute before opening the door and going in. He had known when she hadn’t answered her cell that she would’ve probably been with her dad so he had decided to check there as Sam’s words replayed in his head

“It’s simple… Go see her.”

Going in, Gus walked up beside her, “Hey.” He said as he pushed hair behind her ear. When she looked up and he saw her tears no words were passed between them as he knelt and held her hands.

Sam smiled when he saw them together and quietly slipped out the door.

Still holding her hands he memorized her face, “What’s wrong Coop?” he asked. She handed him the legal pad and he read it. Looking at the door that led to Buzz’s room then back at her he tightened his hold on her hands, “We’ll get your father cleared. Come with me please?” he asked.

“I can’t.” She stated. “Harley you need air, take a walk with me.” She just stared at him.

“This won’t change anything between us.” She said. “I know but I still care about you honey and I hate seeing you so tense.” He replied gently pulling her to her feet and helping her with her coat before walking outside in the snow.

They began to walk side by side through the park with no words between them. After a few minutes Harley stumbled and Gus caught her to keep her from falling.

He was about to let her go, “Don’t let go Gus just hold me.” She said softly. “I’ve got you Harley.” He said wrapping her in his embrace as she laid her head on his shoulder.

“I don’t think I’ve wished you a Merry Christmas, have I?” Gus asked. He felt her shake her head, “Merry Christmas Sweetheart.” He said softly looking at her place a hand on her cheek. Lowering his mouth to hers he kissed her softly but passionately.

Sam watched from a distance smiling, “I did it! I did it!” he said excitedly as he looked up at the sky. As they broke the kiss they both looked at each other as Gus wiped at her tears, “I still love you beautiful.” He whispered. They both watched as a little boy fell back in the snow and began to make a snow angel. Once he was done he turned and smiled at them and Gus and Harley watched as he simply faded away.

Both looked at each other in confusion then walked over to where the angel was and looked at it. Gus saw a piece of paper lying in the body of the angel and picked it up. Showing it to Harley they read it.

For Gus and Harley:

You thought I was just a little boy; but you see I’m no ordinary little boy. I am an angel – A Christmas Angel for both of you.
You both need each other. I’ll be watching!

Raising a hand gently to her face he said, “He was sent for us.”

As Sam stood by his supervisor he looked at the scene before him. “Will they make it Sir?” he wondered looking over as the scene faded.

“Yes, they will they love each other, they’ll slowly begin to work toward each other again.”

“Can I go now sir?” Sam asked. The supervisor nodded then laid a hand on the boy’s shoulder, “Good Job Sam.”

Sam smiled, “Thank you sir, you know I liked them they were nice.” He walked away as the scene unfolded again this time for the supervisor to see.

“A child led you to where your hearts belonged. Take care.” The supervisor said quietly as he stared at Gus for a few moments before the scene faded and he walked away.

The Letter

Hey everyone, as you know most every year I try to do a Christmas stand alone story. This year I wanted to try & sum up what this year has meant for Gus… This story will include Sydney; so please enjoy & Merry Christmas! –GG

Harley was walking back from checking on Sydney just as the pearly grey of the day began rising in the sky. She happened to look down & saw crumpled up paper.

“Where’d that come from?” She wondered picking it up. Pulling where she could read it her breath caught in her throat:

Dear Harley,

She knew Gus’s writing, “What were you doing.” A few feet away she saw more paper, checking those they were all blank. Seeing more she picked them up:

Dear Harley,

First of all, I want to tell… The rest was blank. When she reached the desk a few feet from the bed; she looked over to where Gus still slept.

Since she was awake for now she picked up all the papers and went downstairs. Sitting on the couch she saw an envelope with her name on it. Picking it up she opened it & began to read:

Dear Harley,

First of all, I need to say this… I’m sorry sweetheart. I know you are probably sitting on the couch trying figure out why I’m sorry, but if you’ll continue reading you’ll understand.

This year started for us being separated; everything that my father had tried to do to you… to us at the end of 2005 really scared me honey. I know a lot of the back story between you & Alan & a lot of the remarks or threats he said to me involved you which led to my missing. He knew that to throw me off kilter all he had to do was threaten you or our family. Harley, even when I was out of my mind with infection from my wound & with what we now know was pain pills. It was you I dreamed of, it was our family I was fighting to stay alive for. When I realized Beth was behind our kidnapping it threw me for a loop then to realize Alan was in on it made me furious. I did everything I knew to try and get a message to you somehow…. At one point I got my chance, I’d hoped if you ever came looking you’d find it & you did you found the “G” I’d carved in the fireplace to let you know I’d been there.

I remember when I first saw your face the day you found me at the sanitarium I wanted to run to you & never stop holding you; but I knew all I could do to get us to that point was help you with that guard, it was me the guard heard and wanted to go after when you jumped him. Honey you need to understand that when I made the statement, ‘I feel like a prisoner that’s just gotten freed after a long time & if I’m acting strange I’m sorry.’ To be together after so long was terrifying for me; I was afraid you’d disappear again. Maybe someday I can tell you of those days; but right now I can’t.

I know my coming home started the most difficult part of our life; helping me fight drugs wasn’t something you signed on for, I know that. I tried baby, I tried so hard to kick the pills on my own; but I knew I needed you with me….

Harley I’m sorry for hurting you while we were there baby. It was like I was behind my own eyes watching this play out. I saw what I’d physically done; I saw your face when you flinched when you thought I would hurt you again. You are my strength. Knowing you were with me at the cabin was enough & I knew I could kick the pills, but having you see me go through hell was tearing at my heart.

When we began again after I’d kicked the pills I thought we’d make it. Then the house in San Cristobel happened & we were wrecked again & I started back with the pills. My low point was knowing you’d left me. It was then I knew I had to clean up & fight those pills in order to get you back.

I loved that we were doing so good working our way back when the most recent obstacle hit us or me rather… but this obstacle led us to Sydney. She will always be ours whether the judge grants her to us or not, you & I know that. If she is granted to us then she will be our Sydney or let me say our “Gracie.”

As you’ve noticed by now… all of these thoughts on our past year have been rolling around the closer we get to New Years Eve. I wanted you to know what I felt.

There is not a day that goes by that my love for you doesn’t grow.

“Morning Baby.” She looked up when she heard his voice. He saw the letter he’d spent a good part of the night writing as she slept. He needed her to know the things he’d said.

As they watched each other Harley wiped at her tears. “Why?”

“New Years Eve is almost here & I can’t help it.” He said softly. She reached her hand out, “The closer it gets the more I’m haunted by what took place up in that cabin.” He said wrapping his hand around hers.

“Will you tell me some day?”

He nodded, “Yes.”

“Why did you write me this letter?” she asked

“Because I want our 2007 to be full of love as we share it together. Merry Christmas sweetheart. I love you.”

He leaned down and kissed her long & deep.

This is a chapter I wrote as part of the GusH board's Group Fan Fiction story that all the Fan Fic writers were writing together in Feb / 2007.

I wrote Chapter 3:

"Oh, no! Please! Not again!" he repeated.

“Breathe Gus, before you pass out. I told you, you shouldn’t have looked at it. Harley said laying her hand gently over his.

She waited him out not saying a word… she knew him well enough to know he would talk to her when he could.

Looking into her eyes as he turned his hand palm up, he took a breath, “We’re okay, not good but okay… I’m a different man now babe.”

“I’m right next to you through this, remember that.” She said softly as she ran her fingers along his throat to help him calm if he needed it.

“We’re here to crack this drug case—Gus spaced out for a second, “no wonder he said I was the guy for this.” “—sorry, let’s get to work, the sooner we get started the sooner we can go home to our family.” He remarked as he pulled a chair over to Harley’s desk & sat down so they could begin to go through files.

Picking up the file that had just sent his world upside down Gus opened it & began to scrutinize the information. Holding up the picture he looked at it then shook his head before looking back at the file.

“Okay, so he is now going by the name Carmini, that’s how they knew he was the same. He changed his last name but not his first & they checked this picture against one of Daniel Santos. Stupid move Daniel.” He said quietly.

“Alright babe… according to Chicago’s files the drug ring made a move about 2 weeks ago. The feelers that they have out say there is supposed to be a meeting between the Carmini mob boss & his go between & the Donnatelli mob boss.” Harley replied reading off some notes to him.

Gus stopped, “I think we need to read up on Danny’s activities since leaving Springfield before we continue.”

“Good idea.”

They both sat in silence for a while reading over some files. Harley couldn’t stop herself from stealing glances at her husband every once in a while.

At one point when she did, she looked over & found Gus watching her. “Sweetheart, I’ll be fine --- I gave the vendetta up remember?”

“I remember; I’m sorry I just remember what it was like with your past history & your fight with Danny.” She said softly.

“I know… & I’m the one whose sorry --.” He sat up then leaning over he claimed her mouth “—that you had to deal with all that with me.” He finished as he broke the kiss.

“I’m not… It made us stronger.”

He smiled as they went back to work. “Hey Gus, there is something I can’t figure out. “What?” he asked.

“Well, we know there was a change of the last name… so if the mob boss that Danny’s with is something Carmini that must mean that when they left town he & Michelle never got back together & Danny married Carmini’s daughter & there by became Carmini himself.”

“Sounds possible--.” Gus started to say; they looked at each other, “but very unlikely.” They said in unison.

“Right…” Harley said. “Danny & Michelle were very much in love when they left.”

“Okay, then lets see if we can find anything on Daniel’s wife.”

They both began to look for newspaper clippings or articles or anything that would describe Daniel’s wife or show them together.

“Aha!” Harley said an hour & a half later.

“Find Something?”

She nodded, pulling a newspaper out of the mounds of files.

“Well, he’s still married to Michelle.” She said laying the paper where Gus could see it.

“Yeah.” He said seeing the front page of the Society section where a clear picture could be seen of Daniel Carmini & his lovely wife.

“Let’s see what the paper has to say as he read the Headline.”

Charity Gala Fundraiser hosted by Chicago Mercy Hospital to benefit a new cardiac wing. In attendance is all of society’s finest. The Hospital would like to thank Ramon and his family for a sizable donation.

“Finest families?” Gus arched an eyebrow in distain

“Ramon who?” Harley wondered.

“I don’t know… all the caption under the picture says is Daniel & Michelle Carmini. & has several gentlemen behind them but I can just barely see one face. I ---.”

“Wait a minute, the picture in the file is this picture right here.” Gus lunged for the file & quickly got the picture out. Grabbing a magnifying glass he began scrutinizing each picture. After 5 minutes he froze.

Closing his eyes & breathing in he opened them, “I just found Ramon.”

Seeing an angry tear in his eye, she jumped up & went to him holding on tight, “Honey?”

“Oh my god….Ramon Carmini, is no, it can’t be… its Miguel Santos.

This is my Christmas 2007 Standalone Story: "Silent Night"

** This year I have written one titled: “Silent Night” I have based this on the separation but yet I still wanted to show the closeness & love they share… even though they don’t want to admit that they still love each other very much. So I hope you enjoy & will let me know what you think!

Harley walked down Main Street looking at the Christmas decorations that had been put up. She had to try & get in to the Christmas Spirit for the sake of her boys but truthfully she was not in the mood for the holiday.

This would be her 1st holiday in 6 years without Gus & that hurt her just to think about. She stopped to look at the town tree glittering with lights. She’d been there about 5 minutes when the hair on her neck stood up. She didn’t have to turn to know who was there.

Gus stood over by the CO2 counter as his eyes found Harley & just watched her. He missed her so much. Blowing her a soft kiss he closed his eyes for a minute against the hurt. Opening them again he turned and walked away. When Harley turned to see him, Gus was already gone.

“I can’t do this.” Harley said softly to herself as she turned & headed back to her car. “I don’t want to go home yet either. l think I’ll just drive around a bit to see if I can clear my head.”


Back at the mansion Gus walks into the den and goes to the sideboard to pour him a drink then goes to the couch & sits down. Taking a drink he closes his eyes as the liquor slides down his throat. Not realizing someone is there watching Gus leans forward & begins to work his wallet out of the back pocket of his jeans. Pulling out a picture he feels his heart break as he stares at it for several minutes

“What happened baby?” he asked puzzled as he stares down at the picture of himself, Harley, Daisy, Zach, & Jude.

For several minutes he says nothing as the person by the door watches Gus & sees the misery in his face. Gus runs his hands over his face in frustration at the fact that he’s not where he wants to be tonight. He wants to be with Harley… this is the 1st time in 6 yrs he’s spent Christmas away from them.

“It hurts so much.” He said softly as he looked at his wedding ring.

Rafe who had been standing there watching inched inside the door & leaned against the wall. He had never seen Gus so unhappy. Not knowing what else to do Gus just sat in silence on the couch staring into space & remembering his times with Harley as well as the night they found their Christmas place.

“I wish I could hold you Coop.” he murmured.

“Go to her.” The voice said when it came out of the darkness which quickly brought Gus to his feet.

“Go to Harley.” Rafe repeated again when he took a few steps away from the wall where Gus could see him.

“Rafe?”

“Go.” he said. Without another word Gus grabbed his coat & threw it on as he ran out the door. Jumping in the car he started the motor then leaned back, he had to have clear thoughts when he saw her so he headed to the only place he was ever able to clear his head… the pond off Coventry Lane.

As Gus rounded the bend & came to stop by the pond what he saw made his heart speed up with love. He knew her shape anywhere as she stood alone on the bank next to the only tree that had Christmas lights & was staring out at the frost covered pond.

When she heard the footsteps she turned, “Gus?”

“Hey Coop.” He said quietly as he came to stand beside her.

“I was just leaving.” She said hurriedly even though she never moved.

“No, you weren’t.” he replied. “You came here for the same reason I did—because this was our Christmas place, the one we found one night a couple of years ago when we went for a drive just the two of us. We loved the stillness of it, the picture it created-- the silent night & the stillness of the frost covered pond & on its bank shedding light over the frost; that one lone pine covered in Christmas lights.”

“Alright yes.” Harley said exasperated that he still knew her as well as he did; she shivered from the cold. Stepping up behind her Gus opened his coat & pulled her into its warmth as he wrapped his arms around her.

“Gus, don’t” she asked him as she began to struggle to leave his warmth.

“Harley stop, just this last time let me hold you, please?”

She didn’t struggle anymore since she liked standing in the circle of his arms. Placing his chin on her left shoulder Gus & Harley stood silently together.

After several minutes Gus hugged her tighter. “Baby where’d we go wrong? We promised each other forever.”

“I know.” She said quietly then they lapsed into silence again.

“Trust.” They said in unison.

“You have Natalia & Rafe now.” She said after a minute.

“They aren’t who I want to be with… matter fact it was Rafe who told me to come to you because he sees how miserable I am.”

She leaned her head back onto his shoulder to look up at him as he looked down. “Really?” she said surprised.

“Really.” He answered. “You have to believe me Coop they’re not my family…. You and the boys are; I’ve told you that.”

“But you have another son now.” She added. “I do and he’s 17 & I want to know him but he doesn’t need me as a father anymore. My life is with a beautiful blonde & her two sons & teenage daughter.”

“I don’t know.” She said hesitantly as she pushed away from him & began to walk away. Catching up to her Gus gently took her by the arm & turned her to face him even as there warm lips met in a kiss that he had very much wanted to give her.

Kissing him felt like coming home & she knew it as he took the kiss a degree deeper.

When he finally broke the kiss he leaned his forehead against hers, “Trust me.” He whispered as he held her face in his hands. At his words she closed her eyes, “I need to go.” She added. He nodded as he regrettably let her go.

“Stay Safe Coop…. Merry Christmas.” Gus replied as she smiled then turned & walked away.

Wanting to tell her in their Christmas place & on this silent night he stared at her as she walked away from him, “Harley?” he called. Hearing him say her name she turned & he continued, “I love you with all my heart honey.”

“I love you to Gus… just as much.” She said. Seeing him smile she continued to her car.

Wanting one last look she turned & stopped before she reached her car. She saw him there looking out over the still frost covered pond knowing he thought of her as she watched him in silence as the Christmas lights from the lone tree played over them both in the silent night.

"GusH" FF writers group story titled "Honeymoon" I wrote Chapter 10

Okay, this is more a fun, flirty, sexy, sensual type chapter... you will see when you read it... Hope you like it. ~~ GG

Gus and Harley stood as they were his forehead against hers as she rested against the door. I love you Mrs. Aitoro very much. He said softly making her smile. And I love you. She replied. They couldnt seem to stop staring at each other for a minute. Dropping a soft kiss on her nose he grinned

Why dont we grab that shower we came in here for?

She nodded as he leaned over and turned on the water and they waited for it to warm before he helped her step in the shower and then stepped in behind her then closed the door.

Forty-five minutes later, Gus carefully stepped out and put on a robe then helped Harley out and bundled her in a robe and after grabbing her brush from her cosmetic bag walked with her to the bed. Climbing on the bed he began to brush through her wet hair as she sat in front of him. We werent supposed to let the shower end up like that honey. He stated.

Harley laughed, Baby this is us youre talking about. Good point. He remarked, Well baby we still need to be able to walk. He replied with a mischievous sparkle in his eyes, so lets go out so I can have dinner with you and we can share a Greek night.

She nodded, That sounds good baby. Harley answered.

Okay, Ill get dressed while youre getting ready and then go find out where some good restaurants are that are close by. Gus stated as he watched Harley take the brush from him. With a smile that he understood all too well she looked at him, I promise next time you see me it will have been worth the wait.

With a chuckle he replied, Are you trying to kill me before I even leave this room sweetie? She laughed as she went into the bathroom again.

Standing quickly Gus looked around for the hair dryer and realized Harley had it with her. Going to the door he knocked, Hon I need the hair dryer. Seeing the door open only wide enough to pass him the hair dryer he smiled. Thanks.

Before she could take her arm back and close the door he took her hand and pressed soft open mouth kisses from her wrist up her arm as high as he could reach. On the other side of the door Harley grabbed the edge of the sink to keep her knees from going to jelly. When he let go she closed the door in his face knowing he was smiling when she did.

After drying his hair and spiking it the way Harley liked he stepped into his soft black slacks putting them on then put his socks and shoes on. Going to the suitcase he looked through his shirts and put on the baby blue polo shirt hed brought. Putting on his watch he went to the bathroom door again, Sweetie Im going downstairs to see about restaurants. Okay sweetie, Ill be ready. She answered through the door.

Stepping off the elevator at the lobby Gus went to the front desk. The man he saw he recognized as the manager. Seeing him the manager smiled remembering hed opened the pool for them.

What can I help you with sir? he asked in English but with a heavy Greek accent.

Hi, I wanted to take my wife out to dinner tonight and was wondering about where some of the restaurants were that were close by? Gus asked.

Ahh, there is a small family owned Greek- American establishment several blocks from here that looks out over the water. The manager remarked. Greek-American? Gus questioned. Yes, the husband is Greek and the wife is American the food is the manager kissed his closed fingers then opened them. He smiled at Gus.

That sounds perfect, its within walking distance right?

The manager nodded, Yes leave here and head left and head toward the water. When you see a sign for the boat dock turn left again and you should see a sign for Lucass thats it.

He nodded at the manager and headed back up to Harley.

When he reached their door he knocked, Beautiful, you ready?

When she opened the door she took his breath away.

You like? she asked turning slowly.

He looked her up and down, she had her hair pulled in a half ponytail with a native flower anchored there and the rest of her hair was loose, she was wearing a soft yellow sun dress that flared out a bit at the bottom and white heels. The look in Guss eyes was the answer she waited for as he pulled her to him and kissed her.

You look amazing! he answered. "You look pretty good yourself. She remarked as they threaded their fingers together and headed downstairs.

Once they were seated at the restaurant, Gus ordered a bottle of wine and after ordering they talked while they waited.

Harley sat listening to Gus and watched him, she loved just watching him-- she could never get enough. He stopped when he saw her, What are you looking at so intently? You. She replied.

Do I have something on my face? he wondered giving her a wink.

No, I just love looking at you knowing you are mine. She said.

Oh baby I am yours, I couldnt be anyone elses but for you. He said kissing the hand he had been holding.

When the food arrived they couldnt help but take on that newlywed air by feeding each other bites off of each others plate, laughing softly, staring at each other as if they were in a world of there own.


Little by little the people around them began to see and watch and smile because they realized they were newlyweds. When Gus finally heard the music he stood and held his hand out to her

Dance with me sweetheart.

She smiled up into his eyes as she took his hand. Pulling her to him as she stood he walked with her to the dance floor. From behind them as he watched them dance, Lucas himself smiled as he saw just how so much in love the couple was.

Do you how much I love you Harley? he asked softly as he ran the tips of his fingers lovingly over her face. How much? she asked kissing his jaw as she locked her arms around his neck.

I love you so much it hurts, do you understand what I mean? When she nodded he winked at her. Sensing the change in the music both Gus and Harley followed it even as some of the people turned to watch them.

Guss hand roamed her body as they danced. There was not a breath of space between them as there moves together were loving yet sensual as he kissed behind her ear and down her neck and she kissed the vee at his throat. They moved over the dance floor without a care. As the music began to slow down to stop there lips met in one final kiss to match their interpration of the song. When the song ended people applauded for them as they stepped off the dance floor and went back to their table.

While Gus was pouring them wine an older gentleman stepped up to them, Excuse me?

Both turned when they heard him, You were just married yes? he asked. Harley answered even as Gus smiled at her, Yes, we are here on our honeymoon.

I am Lucas. The man said then got everyones attention, Excuse ladies and gentlemen, If you would raise a glass with me to this couple who just got married. He asked, as they did Harley and Gus smiled and touched glasses. Lucas smiled at them again as he placed a dish of baklava and ice cream in front of them then disappeared.

When they saw the ice cream both Gus and Harley smiled at each other as they remembered.

Well its not shaped like the Parthenon, but its ice cream. He said smiling as he fed her and she laughed.

Come on babe lets head back. Gus remarked and Harley saw the glint in his eye and nodded.

After paying they slowly began to walk back, Harley had her arm around his waist while Gus tucked her tightly to his side. Slowly going back they watched the water as a light breeze blew and the sun began to set.

Harley? Gus said as he stopped to just watch the sun. Yeah honey? she said just watching him. I promised you one day a long time ago Id bring you here remember? he asked

I remember. She remarked

Baby look at me? Gus asked lifting her eyes to meet his. Im sorry I didnt get you here sooner but I would never trade that day in my hotel for anything that was the day I knew without a doubt that you were a part of me no matter what happened and Id never let you go. He stated.

You kept the promise, I knew you would Gus. she said pulling him to her and threading there hands together so there wedding rings were side by side --- and into a deep kiss as the sun began to change colors over the water.

Walking back they shared kisses and touches and more kisses. Reaching the hotel they were smiling as they walked to the elevator. Once the door closed Guss mouth crashed to hers as love and sensations rocketed through both of them.

Just as the door closed to their room you heard the soft murmurs of I want you! as the door closed behind them.

She smiled up into his eyes as she took his hand. Pulling her to him as she stood he walked with her to the dance floor. From behind them as he watched them dance, Lucas himself smiled as he saw just how so much in love the couple was.

Do you how much I love you Harley? he asked softly as he ran the tips of his fingers lovingly over her face. How much? she asked kissing his jaw as she locked her arms around his neck.

I love you so much it hurts, do you understand what I mean? When she nodded he winked at her. Sensing the change in the music both Gus and Harley followed it even as some of the people turned to watch them.

Guss hand roamed her body as they danced. There was not a breath of space between them as there moves together were loving yet sensual as he kissed behind her ear and down her neck and she kissed the vee at his throat. They moved over the dance floor without a care. As the music began to slow down to stop there lips met in one final kiss to match their interpretation of the song. When the song ended people applauded for them as they stepped off the dance floor and went back to their table.

While Gus was pouring them wine an older gentleman stepped up to them, Excuse me?

Both turned when they heard him, You were just married yes? he asked. Harley answered even as Gus smiled at her, Yes, we are here on our honeymoon.

I am Lucas. The man said then got everyone's attention, Excuse ladies and gentlemen, If you would raise a glass with me to this couple who just got married. He asked, as they did Harley and Gus smiled and touched glasses. Lucas smiled at them again as he placed a dish of baklava and ice cream in front of them then disappeared.

When they saw the ice cream both Gus and Harley smiled at each other as they remembered.

Well its not shaped like the Parthenon, but its ice cream. He said smiling as he fed her and she laughed.

Come on babe lets head back. Gus remarked and Harley saw the glint in his eye and nodded.

After paying they slowly began to walk back, Harley had her arm around his waist while Gus tucked her tightly to his side. Slowly going back they watched the water as a light breeze blew and the sun began to set.

Harley? Gus said as he stopped to just watch the sun. Yeah honey? she said just watching him. I promised you one day a long time ago Id bring you here remember? he asked

I remember. She remarked

Baby look at me? Gus asked lifting her eyes to meet his. I'm sorry I didn't get you here sooner but I would never trade that day in my hotel for anything that was the day I knew without a doubt that you were a part of me no matter what happened and Id never let you go. He stated.

You kept the promise, I knew you would Gus. she said pulling him to her and threading there hands together so there wedding rings were side by side --- and into a deep kiss as the sun began to change colors over the water.

Walking back they shared kisses and touches and more kisses. Reaching the hotel they were smiling as they walked to the elevator. Once the door closed Guss mouth crashed to hers as love and sensations rocketed through both of them.

Just as the door closed to their room you heard the soft murmurs of I want you! as the door closed behind them.

This was a a chapter I wrote for a "Round Robin" GusH Fan Fiction that all the active fiction writers from the board decided to do together in "Gush Chat" one night so it was titled GCFF. My chapter was written February 10, 2007.


"Oh, no! Please! Not again!" he repeated.

"Breathe Gus, before you pass out. I told you, you shouldn't have looked at it." Harley said laying her hand gently over his.

She waited him out not saying a word she knew him well enough to know he would talk to her when he could.

Looking into her eyes as he turned his hand palm up, he took a breath, "Were okay, not good but okay I'm a different man now babe."

"I'm right next to you through this, remember that." She said softly as she ran her fingers along his throat to help him calm if he needed it.

"Were here to crack this drug case"- Gus spaced out for a second,-" no wonder he said I was the guy for this. sorry, lets get to work, the sooner we get started the sooner we can go home to our family." He remarked as he pulled a chair over to Harleys desk & sat down so they could begin to go through files.

Picking up the file that had just sent his world upside down Gus opened it & began to scrutinize the information. Holding up the picture he looked at it then shook his head before looking back at the file.

"Okay, so he is now going by the name Carmini, thats how they knew he was the same. He changed his last name but not his first & they checked this picture against one of Daniel Santos. Stupid move Daniel." He said quietly.

"Alright babe according to Chicagos files the drug ring made a move about 2 weeks ago. The feelers that they have out say there is supposed to be a meeting between the Carmini mob boss & his go between & the Donnatelli mob boss." Harley replied reading off some notes to him.

Gus stopped, " think we need to read up on Dannys activities since leaving Springfield before we continue.

Good idea.

They both sat in silence for a while reading over some files. Harley couldnt stop herself from stealing glances at her husband every once in a while.

At one point when she did, she looked over & found Gus watching her. Sweetheart, I'll be fine --- I gave the vendetta up remember?

I remember; I'm sorry I just remember what it was like with your past history & your fight with Danny. She said softly.

Well, we know there was a change of the last name so if the mob boss that Danny's with is something Carmini that must mean that when they left town he & Michelle never got back together & Danny married Carmini's daughter & there by became Carmini himself.

Sounds possible--. Gus started to say; they looked at each other, but very unlikely. They said in unison.

Right Harley said. Danny & Michelle were very much in love when they left.

Okay, then lets see if we can find anything on Daniel's wife.

They both began to look for newspaper clippings or articles or anything that would describe Daniel's wife or show them together.

Aha! Harley said an hour & a half later.

She nodded, pulling a newspaper out of the mounds of files.

Well, he's still married to Michelle. She said laying the paper where Gus could see it.

Yeah. He said seeing the front page of the Society section where a clear picture could be seen of Daniel Carmini & his lovely wife.

Lets see what the paper has to say as he read the Headline.

Charity Gala Fundraiser hosted by Chicago Mercy Hospital to benefit a new cardiac wing. In attendance is all of societys finest. The Hospital would like to thank Ramon and his family for a sizable donation.

Closing his eyes & breathing in he opened them, I just found Ramon.

Seeing an angry tear in his eye, she jumped up & went to him holding on tight, Honey?
